Recite and Reflect on Surah Ar-Rahman
Allah swt draws our attention to His creation in order for us to realise a few important things: the wonders of Allah’s power, the countless blessings that he has given us, our helplessness before him and how we will be accountable before him.
Surah Ar-Rahman warns us about the evil consequences of disobedience to Allah swt whilst also making us fully aware of the rewards to his obedience. Surah Ar-Rahman has a beautiful poetic rhythm and flow. It has a beautiful rhythm to it and the verses of the surah balance with each other in both meaning and intonation. A central and recurring theme of the surah is the much known verse “Then which of the favours of your Lord will you [both] deny?’’ being mentioned 31 times.
This surah can be divided into four parts:
- Part 1: Allah’s creation and the start of ….
- Part 2: annihilation, resurrection and reckoning
- Part 3: heavenly reward for those who aspire to gain jannah in this existence
- Part 4: the reward of the ordinary believers
