Course Description
The Ilm Essentials Level 1 course imparts the core Islamic fundamentals that every Muslim needs to practice their faith. In this level students cover Beliefs (integrated within the modules), Fiqh (Purification, Prayer, Fasting, Zakah, Hajj ) according to the Hanafi Madhab, Quran Tafseer, Hadith & Seerah.
The key objectives of the course are:
- Gain an understanding of core Islamic knowledge
- Be confident in your Islamic beliefs and practices
- Develop an insight into prophetic character and religious practice
- Build a strong foundation to progress onto more advanced programmes
Assessment
Students on the Ilm Essentials course are formally assessed twice a year during the biannual assessment weeks. Exams will be in written format, and students may speak to class teachers for information on specific details regarding the exam format for each subject.
As the course is condensed, students are recommended to revise their class notes on a weekly basis. Students may additionally be given tasks or projects by respective teachers to be carried out throughout the year. Outside of class, students are recommended to spend a minimum of 2-3 hours of study time per week. Students are given a recommended reading list that has been tailored to their program of study.
